Belgian and Dutch Shepherd Dogs

The Great Illustrated History of Two World Breeds · Jean-Marie Vanbutsele · German translation: Tanino Chiavaro

This work sets out to show the close connection between the Belgian and the Dutch Shepherd Dog through the history of both breeds. Given shared traits such as common origin, structure and genetics, the Dutch Shepherd can rightly be called the Belgian’s twin brother, with the brindle coat colour as its sole distinguishing mark.

The «Saint-Hubert»

Legendary Hound · Jean-Marie Vanbutsele · German translation: Tanino Chiavaro

Dedicated to the Chien de Saint-Hubert (Bloodhound), this book brings to light the writings of significant, now deceased Belgian cynologists: Prof. Ad. Reul, Henry Sodenkamp, Louis Huyghebaert, Albert Houtart and Georges O’Breen. At its centre is the long historical journey of the breed, developed by the monks of Saint-Hubert Abbey in the heart of the Ardennes. Enthusiasts will find the various breed standards here, from the first, published by Ad. Reul in 1894, to the standard in force since 2001.
