Who stands behind Mente Canina
My name is Tanino Gaetano Chiavaro, and for over forty years my life has revolved around dogs.
I have handled avalanche and rescue dogs. I was active in sled-dog sport and became Swiss champion in 2004 in the unlimited sprint class. I have trained working and sport dogs, judged trials and taken part in countless ones myself. As editor and translator of the work “The Belgian Shepherd — 125 Years of Illustrated History”, I spent years engaging with the functional and historical development of working-dog breeds. My final thesis at the Freie Journalistenschule Berlin dealt with the media portrayal of dogs and its influence on how society perceives them.
Out of all this a stance has grown — and out of that stance, Mente Canina. A magazine by someone who has not merely read the dog world, but lived it.
I have seen too many oversimplifications. Too much advice sold as truth when it was only opinion. Too many dogs that suffered under false certainties. Mente Canina is the attempt to do it differently: a four-language magazine for everyone who lives and works with dogs — and who is willing to look more closely.
Not an advertising magazine. No paid recommendations. No parroting of trends. Instead, fact-checked specialist articles, honest conversations and the courage to say what is uncomfortable, too.
Look deeper. Speak honestly. Respect the dog.
